Buddy Pajak grew up in Round Rock, Texas and later moved to San Marcos in 2009. His interest in drawing developed early in life. Buddy's first artistic activities were attempts at recreating characters from cartoons such as Ren and Stimpy, the Spawn comic book series, and the Predator movies. Buddy will always remain inspired by the intensity and depth of human imagination. As a developing artist, it was these influences that shaped his attention to detail and line variation.
As an artist I feel inspired to create strange, obscure, and gloomy characters. Artists such as Bernie Wrightson, Stephen Gammell and Ralph Steadman remain inspirations for my work . My recent process draws upon moments of detailed imagery in order to create. I often begin with source imagery found within science books or national Geographic and even comics. From there I sort through these images, looking to weave objects together and make something that is engaging and bizarre. I have found that graphite pencils or ink pens are perfect for creating crisp detailed lines and smooth tonal gradients, however my recent work includes oil paint and mixed media. Through the exploration of each process I am able to apply learned techniques from one medium to another.
